LYSLYD
- a collaborative project in between art, urban development and innovation

LYSLYD was a 3-year long project running from 2008-2010.

The point of departure for LYSLYD was to create a new project model that would enable a number of partners and municipalities to be involved in a joint project focusing on the use of light and sound in public spaces. The project consisted of three fundamental approaches in order to stimulate the artistic objective, the urban and the commercial.

ABOUT METROPOLIS
ABOUT LYSLYD

Artistic objectivesthe project should have high visibility and create unique experiences that possessed great signal value and artistic integrity.

This was practiced in collaboration with a large number of national and international artists in the creation of 24 public space projects experimenting with light and sound. The projects were launched as two major events in August 2009 and February 2010.

Urban related objectives - the project aimed to promote identity-creating processes in relation to concrete public spaces in the individual municipalities and subsequently relate to the on going city transformation processes where collaborations between architects, artists and residents could benefit new methods in urban development.

This was realised by creating a partnership between local authorities from the cultural and planning department, professional businesses within the light, sound and public space sectors and local cultural institutions and businesses. Through seminars, workshops and individual advisory processes new methods and best practice examples were presented and tested.

Commercial objectives – the project should encourage growth by promoting innovation within light and sound and create new networks within the sectors.

A mapping of the light sector was carried out to strengthen the relationship between businesses and to create a network where the partners could share knowledge. A number of businesses and research institutions participated in a workgroup in order to follow the LYSLYD project and see the potential for new networks and partnerships within the light and sound sector.

The workgroup initiated a new network for the light sector (Dansk Lys) that was launched at the final LYSLYD seminar and matchmaking in June 2010.
